Their ad system has exceptional targeting, letting you get incredibly specific; if you want to target a young parent who loves anime and works as a software engineer, you can do that.<\/p>\n<p>This is important, because the biggest benefit of this ad platform is that it allows you to show ads to users even if they\u2019ve never heard of you, thus generating interest and demand where there was none before.<\/p>\n<p>The demand generation, however, can be a little tricky. Since you\u2019re introducing your brand, product and\/or service to users who have never heard of you, they\u2019re typically not going to be ready to purchase right away. You see an ad from a laundry detergent company that you\u2019ve never heard of that promises to be effective. Big deal, right? You already have a detergent that works just fine, even though your workout clothes <em>do<\/em>\u00a0get a little funky sometimes. You just need baking soda washes, right?<\/p>\n<p>So you don\u2019t convert. It starts strong by reminding users that athleisure-wear is expensive and needs to be cared for properly, and that includes getting it truly clean while being gentle. They use a video campaign to show how gross our workout clothes <em>really<\/em> are and how effective their detergent is at getting it clean. It catches your interest and something that alarming is hard to forget.<\/p>\n<p>The first time I saw this ad, I actually grabbed all my workout clothes <span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 <\/span> clean or otherwise <span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 <\/span> and stuck them on a soak and wash cycle:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"580\" height=\"1256\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2019 06 17 at 1.17.11 PM\" class=\"wp-image-23142 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Screen-Shot-2019-06-17-at-1.17.11-PM.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Next, you see an ad like this. Simple and likely retargeted based off of views of the first video. They use a comparison video here to really demonstrate value again:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"582\" height=\"946\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2019 06 17 at 1.17.38 PM\" class=\"wp-image-23146 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Screen-Shot-2019-06-17-at-1.17.38-PM.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Then comes the more salesly offer, which was likely retargeted from the second video campaign. In order to entice purchases from warm audiences, they offer a discount code and finish with a <a data-lasso-id=\"19686\" href=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/blog-posts\/conversions\/create-ctas-actually-cause-action\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">clear CTA<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2019 06 17 at 1.17.14 PM\" class=\"wp-image-23145 aligncenter\" height=\"774\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Screen-Shot-2019-06-17-at-1.17.14-PM.png\" width=\"580\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I converted after seeing an ad similar to this, taking advantage of that coupon code. About two months later, I saw an ad similar to the one below. The campaign didn\u2019t end after the first purchase; they retargeted users who had already purchased with a new campaign several months later reminding them to purchase again:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"572\" height=\"770\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2019 06 17 at 1.17.49 PM\" class=\"wp-image-23140 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Screen-Shot-2019-06-17-at-1.17.49-PM.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This funnel was designed to take cold-as-ice audiences, get them toasty warm, and not only urge them to convert once, but on a continual basis moving forward. The more relevant your ad campaigns are to a specific audience, the more likely they are to take interest and (hopefully) convert.<\/p>\n<p>On the night of the <em>Game of Thrones<\/em> premiere, I must have seen three different ads from three different food delivery companies with puns like \u201cWinter is coming\u2026and so is delivery!\u201d These ads will obviously resonate more with <em>Game of Thrones<\/em> fans, and probably wouldn\u2019t be as effective to anyone outside of that audience.<\/p>\n<p>Most ad funnels start with some segmented audiences and go from there. The Rockin&#8217; Green campaign I saw, for example, was clearly targeting women who are interested in active activities; it\u2019s why they mention \u201cleggings\u201d and \u201csports bras\u201d instead of just \u201cworkout clothes.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"590\" height=\"278\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2019 06 17 at 2.04.42 PM\" class=\"wp-image-23144 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Screen-Shot-2019-06-17-at-2.04.42-PM.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>You can <a data-lasso-id=\"19689\" href=\"https:\/\/www.disruptiveadvertising.com\/marketing\/market-segmentation\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">segment your audience<\/a> by interest, demographic, behavior or their current relationship with your brand. You can also use lookalike audiences based off of high-value custom audiences. You can adjust the strategies and layout entirely as needed <span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u2013 <\/span> that\u2019s what makes them templates!<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"h.pehyzoxt85b9\">The Advanced Video Funnel<\/h3>\n<p>Video funnels are a personal favorite. They work by showing a general appeal ad campaign <a data-lasso-id=\"19692\" href=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/marketing-funnels\/how-targeting-cold-warm-hot-traffic-build-successful-customer-relationships\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">to a cold audience<\/a>. Then you create a new campaign based off an audience who watched a certain amount of the video, either in time or percentage. I like to target users who watched at least 50% of the initial video. You can then do the same thing with a second video, like Rockin&#8217; Green did, or follow it up with other high-engaging options like carousel ads.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1428\" height=\"604\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2019 06 17 at 2.49.42 PM\" class=\"wp-image-23141 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Screen-Shot-2019-06-17-at-2.49.42-PM.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Here\u2019s an example of how this would play out:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Use a video focusing on brand storytelling<\/strong> to explain why your company was founded and what makes it different.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Retarget users<\/strong> <strong>who watched at least 50%<\/strong> of the first video, and show them a second video of the product in use and how versatile\/valuable it is.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Retarget users who watched at least 75%<\/strong> of the previous video and show them a carousel ad either featuring different products <em>or<\/em> highlighting different benefits of the same product. My own business is a good example; the person who wants me to ghostwrite a book isn\u2019t someone who wants me to write their <a data-lasso-id=\"19697\" href=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/blog-posts\/pay-per-click\/how-to-gauge-the-success-of-your-ppc-campaign\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">PPC campaigns<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When this is the case, driving generic cold traffic to your site and then immediately following up with segmented retargeting based on what they express interest in is the way to go. Using <a data-lasso-id=\"19698\" href=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/facebook-news-feed\/facebook-lead-ads-everything-you-need-to-know-increase-mobile-conversions\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">lead ads<\/a> is a good choice to slowly nudge users towards conversion and allow you to work with them one-on-one.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1402\" height=\"636\" alt=\"Screen Shot 2019 06 17 at 2.50.41 PM\" class=\"wp-image-23143 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/06\/Screen-Shot-2019-06-17-at-2.50.41-PM.png\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is an ad funnel that I\u2019ve used for my B2B writing business, but that (again) can easily be adapted depending on what you need. Keep in mind that high-value services typically require more nurturing to get to conversion:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Start with an ad campaign appealing to cold audiences<\/strong> using lookalike audiences based on current high-value customers. Keep the audience similarity as high as possible while maintaining high numbers. Show them a carousel ad featuring different products or services, and use the main ad copy to explain <a data-lasso-id=\"19699\" href=\"https:\/\/www.entrepreneur.com\/encyclopedia\/unique-selling-proposition-usp\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">your business\u2019s USP<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Retarget users based on the individual <a data-lasso-id=\"19700\" href=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/conversions-2\/ultimate-guide-to-creating-a-high-converting-landing-page-in-2019\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">landing pages<\/a> they end up on<\/strong>. For example, I have a separate page for <a data-lasso-id=\"19701\" href=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/content-marketing-strategy-2\/ultimate-guide-to-content-marketing\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">content marketing<\/a>, a separate page for PPC services, and so on. Show them a campaign explaining the value of this service with a<a data-lasso-id=\"19702\" href=\"https:\/\/www.leadguru.co.uk\/facebook-lead-ads\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0lead ad<\/a> that\u2019s designed to gather their information. Ideally, consider offering a lead magnet like an e-book or free consultation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Retarget based on users who filled out that lead form<\/strong>, showing them the benefits of working with you. Use CTAs to get in touch <em>or<\/em> for them to send you a message with any questions they might have.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Run a third campaign with another lead magnet<\/strong> or offer to those who opened the form but didn\u2019t convert. This can help you increase people moving through the funnel. That being said, the following almost always hold true:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Start with a niche, but don\u2019t get <em>too<\/em> niche.<\/strong>\u00a0If your starting audience is too small, you\u2019ll have a hard time getting enough users to move all the way through the funnel to be worth it. Funnels are a little like dating, and it\u2019s definitely a numbers game, so just niche down enough to keep it relevant but no smaller than that.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a data-lasso-id=\"19708\" href=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/blog-posts\/conversions\/5-important-landing-page-elements-you-should-be-ab-testing\/\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">A\/B test it<\/a>.<\/strong> Split testing is everything in the PPC world, and that goes for ad funnels. Make sure you\u2019re keeping an eye on which funnels are working and potential drop-off points in the funnel. This can help clue you in about where things are going awry and how to adjust accordingly.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Include multiple ad campaigns at every touch point. <\/strong>Use different copy, different images and even different strategies at every stage of the digital sales funnel. This will not only help you see what\u2019s effective, but appeal to as many members in the ad funnel as possible.
