Getting more of these will help boost organic visibility.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Link Schemes &#8211; <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">These are large groups of similar links that are coming from the same source and are the most probable cause of site-wide links.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Link Opportunities &#8211; <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Some websites (especially popular brands) earn natural, high-quality links without knowing it. An audit will help you discover those sources so you can build relationships and earn more links.<\/span><\/b><\/li>\n<li><b>Link Equity Consolidation &#8211; <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In almost every case, there are authoritative inbound links pointing to 404 pages on any given website. <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>To be clear, a \u201cdead link\u201d in this context means a link that was once live and indexed but is no longer there.<\/p>\n<p>Here are two possible scenarios:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The referring page still exists, but the link was removed.<\/li>\n<li>The referring page no longer exists (404).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In the case of a popular site like Lyft, it\u2019s very possible that a large number of site-wide links were dropped from the time the link data was collected versus the time it took me to crawl the links and complete the analysis.<\/p>\n<p>Let\u2019s see where some of these dead links are coming from.<\/p>\n<p>There were over 10,000 dead links coming from lyfthub.com:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Lyft-15-Lyft-Hub.png\" alt=\"Lyft 15 Lyft Hub\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Lyfthub.com appears to be \u201cshut down\u201d by the GoDaddy default landing page:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Lyft-16-Kaibosh.png\" alt=\"Lyft 16 Kaibosh\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/archive.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"6805\">Archive.org<\/a><\/strong><em>\u00a0<\/em>proves that this was once a spammy fake forum site:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Lyft-17-Archive-org.png\" alt=\"Lyft 17 Archive org\" width=\"319\" height=\"329\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The distribution is showing a wide range of referring domains at various strengths, with the biggest cluster between DA 30-60, and a few outliers at 87+:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Lyft-18-Moz-DA.png\" alt=\"Lyft 18 Moz DA\" width=\"741\" height=\"379\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Cluster at DA 40<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I think most SEOs would agree that it\u2019s quite natural to a see a site such as Lyft.com with an abundance of referring domains at DA 40.\u00a0Very common link from a typical mid-tier personal finance blog.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/suburbanfinance.com\/cheap-travel-trips-help-save-summer\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"6806\">SuburbanFinance.com<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/pasted-image-0.png\" alt=\"pasted image 0\" width=\"631\" height=\"474\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Outliers at DA 90<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Lyft can naturally attract links from authoritative domains based on newsworthy, headline-style P.R. efforts.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnbc.com\/2016\/07\/07\/lyft-just-added-a-luxury-service-to-rival-uberblack.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"6807\">CNBC.com<\/a><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>CNBC published a story on Lyft\u2019s efforts to compete with Uber.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Lyft-20-CNBC.png\" alt=\"Lyft 20 CNBC\" width=\"691\" height=\"214\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.vox.com\/2014\/12\/17\/7402311\/lyft-driver-pay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-lasso-id=\"6808\">Vox.com <\/a><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This was actually a cool piece of user-generated content.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/pasted-image-0-3.png\" alt=\"pasted image 0 3\" width=\"595\" height=\"257\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The URL rating distribution from Ahrefs skews heavily toward the low end, with a cluster at the 7-9 range and a second surge of links at 30-38. Given the spike at 0, we can conclude that most backlinks from the Ahrefs index are of lower quality.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.singlegrain.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/02\/Lyft-21-Ahrefs-URL-Rating.png\" alt=\"Lyft 21 Ahrefs URL Rating\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is a low-quality forum link identified by Ahrefs.
